Beyond the Resume
From mentoring one person to leading a team, my work experiences have given me the opportunity to grow in different ways. Each role has challenged me to communicate, serve, encourage, and learn how to bring out the best in the people around me.
Tradition Leader
As a Tradition Leader, I trained and supported nearly 50 student leaders, helping them develop their communication, confidence, and leadership skills as they prepared to welcome more than 3,000 new students to Baylor. I worked closely with New Student Programs staff to coordinate programming and create an experience where both new students and student leaders could thrive. One of the moments I will always cherish was speaking on stage in front of the entire incoming class and sharing the Baylor traditions that had become so meaningful to me. Watching those student leaders step into their roles and seeing the impact they had on incoming students made this experience one I will carry with me long after I graduate.
Mentor Captain
As a Mentor Captain, I continued my tradition leader role by supporting a cohort of 15 Welcome Mentors throughout an eight-week student transition experience. I conducted one-on-one meetings with them to provide guidance, accountability, and encouragement. This role gave me a firsthand look at the heart of student affairs—walking alongside students during important transitions, developing student leaders, and creating an environment where people feel supported and connected. It strengthened my desire to pursue a career where I can continue investing in students and helping them find their place within a community.
Campus Recreation Staff Leader
As a Member Services Staff Leader at Baylor’s McLane Student Life Center, I supervise and support a team of 25 student employees, including directly mentoring a core group of five staff members. I help train new employees, navigate conflict and daily challenges, and create an environment where student employees feel supported while being held accountable. This role has also allowed me to connect my background in public health with my passion for student wellbeing, building relationships with both coworkers and patrons while helping create a space that supports their physical, social, and overall wellbeing.
